Prep Day

My church asked me to take pictures during the work weekend while we get our new building ready.  I am supper excited to get to do this.  These shots were just from the prep day last weekend so the real work could begin this weekend.

Purple Pumas

The Purple Pumas were a nifty bunch to work with.  We met at one of my favorite parks to photograph in.  Everyone wanted tons of poses and some family shots as well.  Plus at the end of the photo shoot someone brought cake for the coach because it was his birthday.  Talk about an awesome end to a great photo shoot.

All Stars

The All Stars were a fun group of kids to work with.  I met them at their practice field like they wanted and took their photos there.  After the team picture I would get one of them off to the side at a time while the other kids were still practicing and take there picture.  After they were done I would send them off and get a new one.  The kids all stayed active and engaged with their coach when they weren't getting their picture taken and no one got bored waiting for their turn at pictures.  I defiantly look forward to working with these kids again.

Blue Sharks

This is one of my favorite parks to go to in town for a photo shoot.  The grass is always really green (a treat in Arizona) and the hills make it easy to get the cars and houses out of the frame. Plus these little soccer players were so fun to work with.  They were just all smiles and giggles.

How it all started

It seems that I find myself in an advantageous position.  What started out as just a desire to record my own family memories, and be a typical soccer mom is now in the very beginning stages of a full blown photography business.

It all started last summer.  This was the first time that my children had ever been in any type of sport at all and they both wanted to play soccer.  Even though they were put on different teams because of ages we lucked out with them both having the same jersey color.  When it came time for pictures I had wanted to get a bunch because I have a giant family but I did not have enough money to pay for the prices charged by the 'team pictures' people (note that I did not say photographer).  Alternatively I just did my own.  I had a shiny new DSLR that was a tax return present from my husband and loved taking pictures anyways.  The photos came out fantastic and my whole family enjoyed them immensely.

Then came the 'picture day' for the teams.  The person that they had originally hired to do the photos couldn't make it so they had just the sports organizer of all the teams taking the photos.  He didn't quite know what  he was doing.  They came out really really bad.  People paid good money for really really bad pictures. (They still have the organizer taking pictures now but he has gotten much better plus they did buy a really neat background.)

The next fall I just had one daughter in soccer (the other wanted to dance).  I showed off my pictures to some of the other moms and one of the moms was complaining about the horrible pictures that she got over the summer. Then all of a sudden I was taking the pictures for the whole team (woo hoo!!).

Fast forward to the spring season.  Both girls are now in soccer. The daughter that was playing in the fall season had teammate carry over to this season.  His parents loved the pictures that I had taken of their son and were wondering if I was going to do it again.  SURE!

Printed up some fliers for that team and ended up getting two more teams request pictures (this time football).  Some parents wanted pictures with their children.  After the contact sheets were handed out some families REQUESTED to have some family portraits done and were wondering if I would be interested!

So now I am printing out business cards.  Getting an appointment book together.  And starting a photography blog to chronicle this journey.  Wish me luck.
